“Bound By Blue”
This is just a quick story about our trip to the Bahamas with Costa Sunglasses to test their top-of-the-line products!
In October of 2020, I got a call about a potential trip to the Bahamas to test out the new Costa Pro Series product line. Obviously, I said yes. On December 29th we were told that the trip was booked and on January 3rd, 2021 my wife and I were on a plane to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We stayed the night in Ft. Lauderdale so we could fly to The Bahamas in the morning. Because everything had happened so fast, we had just rolled out with tickets in hand, not knowing many details. That being said, we definitely weren't expecting to hop on a sea plane in Ft. Lauderdale and head to a tiny airstrip on a tiny island in the Bahamas called Chub Cay. It was an incredible experience that really gave you that feeling of adventure that this trip was going to be.
Once we got through customs, a golf cart took us to the marina where a tender was waiting to take us to our home for the next week - the Sea Hunter. She and her fleet - Working Girl and Bwana - were tucked back in a cove near an island surrounded by crystal clear blue water. We lived, ate, slept, worked and played on the Sea Hunter. We snorkeled, we spearfished, we went fly fishing for bonefish. My first bonefish was an 8 lber and it broke my rod when I set the hook. I had to reel it in with nothing but the reel and one eye attached, the rest was just hanging. I got him though. (We also went night fishing by accident when a big Cubera swam under the lights off the back deck and I couldn’t help but throw a line at it. As soon as he bit, every angler on that boat sprang into action and we took off by boat and chased him down and reeled him in.) We played guitar, told stories and immersed ourselves in the culture by fishing with the Bahamian guides, eating our daily catches of wahoo, grouper, lobster and conch prepared by our Bahamian crew. We drank with the locals at the bar in town and every single person on that boat ended up leaving as family. It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip that I will forever be grateful for.
